Papal Visit

On April 12, 2015, His Holiness, Pope Francis acknowledged the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide during a Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica. It was a historic moment for Armenians everywhere. As a result of the Pope’s courage, millions more non-Armenians all around the world now know who we are and what happened to our ancestors.

To express our appreciation, the Philadelphia Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee undertook a giving campaign this summer to raise funds to thank Pope Francis during his visit to Philadelphia September 26 weekend for the World Meeting of Families.

Our committee would like to extend its deepest appreciation to our donors for their generous contributions to our 2015 Papal Visit Project, with special mention to Peter & Irene Vosbikian for their matching donation. Thanks to the unified effort of the greater Philadelphia Armenian community, over $16,000 was raised with full-page color ads placed in the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News, three digital billboards commissioned on I-95, I-76 and the Platt Bridge, and banner ads run 300,000 times on philly.com.
