Armenian Genocide Walk for Justice – Rain or Shine

The Armenian Genocide Walk for Justice Will Take Place

The Armenian Genocide Walk for Justice Committee  is aware of the predicted inclement weather but  we won’t let a little rain stop us from taking action! After the walk from the Art Museum to Independence Hall, we will gather in the Liberty View Ballroom at the Independence Visitor Center to conclude the walk with our keynote speakers.

PARKING AT THE BOURSE

Discounted parking will be available for those participating in the walk and program. Mention the “Armenian Genocide Walk for Justice” at the Bourse Parking garage for a special $8 rate until 5pm.

Free Bus Transportation

The Armenian Genocide Walk for Justice will have FREE bus transportation from three local Armenian churches to facilitate easier travel into the city.  The buses will shuttle participants to the city and back to the churches.  Please arrive at the church of your choice by 10:15am on April 23rd.

Holy Trinity Armenian Church :101 Ashmead Road Cheltenham, PA 19012
St Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Church : 630 Clothier Road Wynnewood, Pennsylvania 19096
St Gregory’s Armenian Church : 8701 Ridge Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19128

The bus will make a drop off at the Art Museum, where the walk will start.  After the walk through the city and the rally at Independence Visitor’s Center is over, the buses will then pick you up at the Independence Visitor’s Center and head back to each of the churches.

Buses will also be available to shuttle anyone back to the Art Museum if they drove and parked their cars in that area.

Youth Art Contest

For the commemoration of the 96th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Philadelphia’s Armenian Genocide Walk Committee is sponsoring an art contest for community youth.

The artwork of the contest winner will appear on this year’s commemorative T-shirt which is worn by hundreds of attendees the day of the event, which is being held this year on April 23, 2011 in Philadelphia. All contestants will have their artwork displayed the day of the event.

Contest Rules

  • Seeking students ages 13 to 18 (7th grade to 12th grade) to participate in the contest.
  • Student artwork must convey the theme of the role of community in taking action to achieve justice for the Armenian Genocide.
  • Students must submit one drawing or painting, no larger than 8 1/2″ x 11″ in size:
    • Drawings can be done on an illustration board, using color pencils, crayons or pastels.
    • Paintings can be done on canvas or illustration board, using any kind of paint.
  • Student artwork must include the artist’s name & age on the back of the work.
    Entries must be received by Sunday, March 6, 2011. Pick-up of artwork will be arranged.
  • Entries will be judged by the Armenian Genocide Walk Committee; the winner will be announced by Sunday, March 13, 2011.
